Growing up I was lucky enough to have had some of the best Bow River guides teach me how to row a drift boat and read water. I know that not all people are that lucky or even have the time to learn these skills on their own, for that reason after 25 years of guiding and outfitting Iron Bow Fly Shop is dedicating a school specifically to rowing and fishing from a drift boat.
Whether you have just purchased, are looking at purchasing, or even renting a drift boat or raft with a rowing frame, this one day course is designed to cover all the basics. We will give you the confidence to be floating the Blue Ribbon stretch of the Bow River by days end on you own.
Our instructors, guides with at least 20 years experience floating the river, will be your mentors for the day. We have designed this course to teach you the basics of advanced rowing and fishing techniques, etiquette, reading key water and safety skills.
Trailering and Boat Launch Etiquette – Safety set up of drift boat – Boat positioning and obstacle avoidance – Anchoring safety – Avoiding dangerous situations – Boat etiquette and the bank fisherman – Speed and distance from banks for setting up drifts for specific fly patterns.
